Local derbi. What else do you need for start a beautiful sunday at 9am? Victory. That's what you really want.
As Jason said in the pre match talk, Pagewood did well last week, improving the passing ratio during some stages of the game. Then this had to happen again, and again has to happen the next week
A lot of friends or people that knew each other in both teams, specially Dani and Beau, who where on this lines a season ago. Now wearing the Maroubra stripe, they whe're enemies during 90min.
With Kenny, Darren, Jack, back in to the field, the team had more ammo in the bench ready to fire at any moment....except for Carlos, who wasn't able to play.
With all of this said, let's see what this unpredictable game was around to be...
Unpredictable?
Alarm 9:00am Game on! snooze...10min
Pagewood wasn't there for a long first 10 min. Ian was semi injured, the ball was far away from him and for the other midfielders. Marco back in the right wing, and Evan ahead with "big J", Ross in the wheel driving as usuall...but we are missing something. The ball.
Maroubra start strong, with a midfielder called Ambrosse in control. He took the leadership but, he sings alone. Control without hit. Sam had a few corners against his goal, but this new season brings a more experienced Sam. He's much secure. Much more.
George and Cam where dealing well in defence, so it was a matter of time, a mathematic equation, that Ross in some point decide to say enough.
After 10 or 12 minutes, the team found a way to get the ball for longer periods of time, allowing the wings to create more spaces. Cam was starting to combine more in short with Jack, starting the options with touch and patience. One, two, three passes, three different players, the third is Ross who always can go forward or play with Marco, who is always up for some fun.
Highway to hell, the team start to rock
Marco la gamba, didn't start the game really well, like the team in general, he was sleepy, and imprecise. With the minutes, him, Jack, and Ross, find a way to break Maroubra, they're left side was weaker that the right. It was more easy to overtake.
From there was a matter of minutes that somehow we find the way. Triangulations and dribblings are like a knife in the shadows.
Un, dos, tres, Marco after a quick transition with Jack and Ross takes over the defender for speed, then he break him down with a change of direction, and opens to Evan.
Breakfast time for the classy striker. He beats a defender before to shot a dry shot that the keeper can safe. 0-1 That was the way.
On the highwall to hell you must rock, and Mikee a few minutes later did rock like a legend.
Founding more order in the team 4-4-2 lines it's easier to create chances. From here and there Pagewood was trying. Evan, Pete, Jason, even Patt, who again did a good demostration of fight and courage. From there Ross was able to move, knowing that Ian was on his back. From his boots started Mikee Golazo. Moving in the right, find a space for Marco, back to Ross, ball to Jack who shot for score but a defence put the leg on it and....hold on a second Mikee is there with his bazuca!!!
Kaboom from outside the box. My men!
With 2-0 and multiple options the half time seemed like a fair option to get some Gatorade and stretch those hamis.
Let's change the plan. Still effective but...
The game totally changed for Pagewood. Not in terms of effectivity, because they score 2 more goals, but they conceed a innecessary and let's face it, embarassing goal. Oh and an pentagruelic and imaginary offside from the Dalai Lama, disallowed a goal from Kenny.
So in the second half the team missed the control. In some stages was a bit caothic. But even with that they managed to get 2 goals. The first one from....guess who?! Yes, Jason.
Played more like a bulldozer today he was one step behind draggin diagonals in the field dragging defenders with him. Not many chances for our "pichichi", not until Patt, catch the maroubra defenders out of position and cross a ball to Jason. With the steak on the table, he got the sauce and place the ball in the long post, impossible for the keeper! 3-0 and adrenaline in the engine! 20 min in front of us of enjoyment...Then it happen. Maroubra kick from the center for the 3-0 and with two players pass over 11 and score the 3-1. That can't happen. In a 1-0 on the play off's is a nice way to waste the game. What was going on is that a bit of disorder happen. Some players where playing in unusual positions. I personally didn't know what was my position, I was in the right wing, so was Pete, so who is on the middle? and in the centerback?
Ian and Jason where not playing, and nobody able to say a word, the team was transitioning a bit in the darkness, although that the occasions where there, which is a good signal. Hurt in the heart for that nonsense goal, a bit of range came from the reds, and increase the attacks. Direct futbol, straight and no concessions. And in one of those we got a corner. Pete score from a death ball, but you have to be there, so it was Ian before, with a headder coming from a corner cross. Deserved goal from Pete and from the team, who improve his capacity to play in the last 15 min, with everybody emptying the tanks.
3 more points, 6 out of 6. We are here boys! And doesn't matter how we are winning...one more time.
Unpredicatble?....
1-0 Evan (Marco) 2-0 Mikee 3-0 Jason (Patt) 4-1 Pete (Ian)
Red: Disorder in some stages
Apart from the goal that we conceed which i won't talk about ever again, we can't loose the tempo as we lost it in the second half (at least 20min). The team went back to the box to box style of play and chaos between lines.
Against a better team this can cost a defeat, or 2 points. Also, playing more short, we get less tired. They get exausted
Yellow: Capacity of work.
Even in the bad moments the team at least fights and plays forward, and they scored two goals that could be a couple more. It's a way but...it's our way?
Green: The new players are in and the confidence is higher than ever.
Jack, Patt, Carlos, and Darren are in, we cover better our lines with fresh blood, and they are all responding well. Also individually every player is better than a year ago, they know much better what they can and can't do, also are more intelligent with the team movements. 3th goal from a set piece. Another important new.
Sam 8: Providential. He's good with the ball in the feet and secure in general. Nothing to do in the goal, but he saved 2 clear chances, one showing a hand in the last moment and another with a weird shot with a deflection that he took aways with the leg.
George 8: Titan. He was chewing boots and legs even after the game, the leftovers from a Maroubra striker. Fierce as usuall, basic piece of the team and more adapted with the short play, making him a beautiful demostration of lidership.
Cam 8: Torpedo. Perfect in defence the enitire game, he was more elastic today. Playing with jack in the right he decided to try some incursions, incisives somteimes but dangerous others, leaving space for Maroubra counter attacks. With the ball in defence, him and George can start the game moving the ball with control.
Jack 7: Secure. He played a good game keeping the right side always active. Participative in attack and always happy to be part of the team passing. He was an active part on the first 2 goals of the team.
Mikee 8: Artillery. With that golazo certifies his great game, always in the good spot, up down across the left. Basic left back and practic with the ball. He can start as well triangulations with Ross or Ian without problems, and play less long balls than the the last season.
Ian 6: Defensive. Ian with physical problems is like a hurt lion in the jungle, yes he's hurt, but it's a lion and it's scary. He rest in the bench more than usual playing less minutes. On the field covered a much defensive line than usual. But of course he deal with every situation with diligence.
Ross 9: Superlative. Another masterclass in the midfield. Even with the team broken he always finds a way. Unstoppable when he has support ahead, sweet moment for the scottish. He's vision is fantastic and matches perfetcly with his team mates. Create a lot of damage in Maroubra's left side, breaking so many times the enemy lines
Marco 8: After a bad start he came back with one assistance and direct participation in most part of the offensive movements. Artist on the dribbilng, looking better and better. Marco play with more tempo this year, less crazy sprints and more look up and talk. He got to chances to score and play the ball with inteligence
Pete 8: Sneaky. Intelligent goal from an intelligent player. Like Marco, he played more with the head up. On line with the midfield, and ready to gamble. He try more to go and try to take defenders. He's faster. He scored today, 3 game, and he has scored more goals than the last season.
Evan 8: Ilusionist. I'm here, and I'm there too! You can't catch him when he play's on a square. He dislocate the defence with a beautiful goal from the edge of the area after a nice team play with Ross and Marco. Great game from the striker
Jason 8: Blocked. He played good as usual but he did had a harder job to do than the last week. He did open spaces taking defences. Of course he scored a goal, after across the entire area in a beautiful diagonal. 5/20 and 16 games to go....at least
Patt 8: Reference. Beeing tall like a tree, Patt is fantastic taking balls down, like Jason he's always a good option. Not only that, he fights and offers options wth the ball. Fantastic assistance to Jason on the 3-0. Fast adaptaion of the midfielder
Foff 6: Sacrified. He had to play a tough game today, specially in the second half, when he need to push an extra gear and stop everything crossing around him. Less participative in attack than the last week, but a good pair off boots in defensive tasks
Kenny 7: Unfair. He came to play, and got a beautiful goal that was disalowed we don't know why. Incredible or not the goal was not valid. Electric as usual in the midfield and happy to play the ball around. Nice to have him back
