With some players out for this game (Kenny, Darren, and Jack) but with Sam back under the posts, the team, as Jason mention, has to be recognised as "Of damn, we play against Pagewood this weekend...we are getting slammed" .
Pagewood today left on a side his habitual Rock & Roll style of play, with fast transtitions and counter attacks, instead they played something close to a symphony of Bethoveen or a nocturne of Chopin.
In a 90 minutes game, you can sit and enjoy different styles of play, always adapted to the moment and the situation. This is the beauty of futbol, is a game played with 22 different players, with different states of emotion.
For first time everyone seemed to be very aware of the importance of make the opponent run and keep the ball in the deck. Ross and Ian, splendid both of them, have done a complete different rol today, instead of those quick plays forward, they played in short spaces, increasing much more the ball circulation. They where well surrounded, the entire defensive line was the best support for the midfield, sometimes it looked that whoever kicked a ball to nowhere will pay the beers after the game.
The first half was as simple as go to buy bread, basically because the red defence didn't conceed any mistakes, and second because the midfielders and strikers had keep UNSW midfielders and defenders pretty busy.
Carlos, El tigre, was more like a cat in those first 45 minutes. He creates spaces, he is fast, he fights, and he hes a good partner for the Crane, but he was affraid to score a goal. 3 chances had the colombian, before Jason hit the net with a soft and subtile touch. He get a ball from the defenders, and cross the entire area leaving players behind.
Apart from generate options and opportunities, Pagewood enjoyed a relaxed first half in pretty much all the lines. Pete, Pat, Foff on the wings had stretch the field giving space for the scottish commander to play on his own rythm. As a dancing partner he always has Marco and Jason, but today everybody wanted to take part of this dance, so they did. Communication was the key. Starting from the Big George.
Finally the full moon party was on
This cycle changed quickly in the second half. Ross tried the from a free kick, but the keeper block it. Was the first attempt of the reds. Almost in the next play, from a corner, the reds score from the most strange goal...Marco take the corner, Foff touched back and Jason, and Simba, and Nemo...at the end the ball end up over the line of goal, but the UNSW defender was around to save it...until he drop a massive bomb inside his own goal...weird weird but 2-0 and happy days in Pagewoodlandia.
The crane, el tigre and el "rondo"
The team speed up with the 2-0 and put an extra gear in the F1 car. Ross was driving, and having this kind of player, good things can always happen. He then decided that Jason was good enough for score a screamer, and the scottish put a delightful ball over a defender, aiming Jason.
We all know that Jason is like a german Flak 88 (google it fellas), and those old guns they shot from pretty far away, and of course they can provoke the chaos. So he did. He let the ball bounce before connect a shot, unstoppable that describing a parabole over the goalkeeper, who couldn't stop such a violent hit. 3-0 and 4th goal for Jason (2+2).
We mention how soccer is a sport of emotions and moments, well, Carlos in his debut with the team in league, did a great first half, opening spaces, fighting and creating, but he missed 2 clear chances. But then, from the deepness of the jungle, we hear a roar, an angry roar. The tiger was on the hunt, so Jason, who is also our last season Top scorer and Top assistance, put a vol in the space for Carlos, who being faster than the defenders got the ball and skip the keeper, the rest, just a massive "YES!" from Carlos, who need it and deserve that goal!
The game then took a even beautidul dynamic, if in the first half the team managed for hold more the ball, in the second half they actually raised the bar.
The following, was a standard combination that was repeated over and over during the last 20-25min
Sam to George, George to Cam, Cam to Ross, Ross to Marco, Marco to Cam, Cam (who is already in the midfield line) To Marco/Ross, Marco/Ross to Marco/Ross, and from here, the options where multiples. This possession allowed the following benefits. And im really glad to list them : )
- Because of this transition from Sam to Jason the ball is our control, our players don't have to be chasing the ball, the opponent do.
- Play with only 2-3 touches. Our control and precision creates the chaos in between they lines.
- We avoid the "Box to Box" kind of game. This means: We have more energy by the end of the game. and because of our discipline in between lines is more easy to defence if we loose the ball. We play in they're field, and they usually defence with 9-10 behind the midline. If we loose the ball, they have to across our entire half before to generate danger.
-Make our enemies wonder. Do we have a chance today?
Falcao style
Back to the field!
On today's game, Ross took the freekicks and Marco took most part of the corners. and with players in the area like Jason, Ian, Carlos, and Foff who are good in headers, something magic had to happen.
Carlos ask politely in spanish, Marco, are you able to put the ball here? And Marco say, Si! Bingo Bango Bongo! Marco's cross with his right food had a destinatary, and reach his destination without delays. When Carlos jumped like and animal over everyone, and hit the ball, he looked a bit confused, he did not see his golazo! He missed because he fell after the jump. Well amigo, a header like that deserve to be at least in youtube! The ball went high, very high, describing then a parabole, and felling just under the post, nice and softly. Booooooooombaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Manita 5-0 and first 3 points in a League that will be interesting, very interesting.
1-0 Jason 2-0 Own goal 3-0 Jason (Ross) 4-0 Carlos (Jason) 5-0 Carlos (Marco)
Red
The midfield loose his esence when is disperse. The wings have to be more coordinated with his defenders and with the midfielders. Move the lines properly allow more inside game. The key? Communication
Yellow
What will we become? This year, the team know each other, better than ever. The steak after the game is a good singal! But, will the team evolve and improve his last year mistakes? Just the ball can say
Green
El rondo, the passing, the 5-0, the seurity in defence...pick one. The team played like he wanted, but the opponent was probably one of the weakest of the league. Even with that, great effort of everyone and good perfomance of the team
Sam 7: He told me during the game, that he was around to complete a sudoku. Not much to do today, but he was always secure in the air balls, and soft and good with the pass, being always an option.
George 8: Totem. He is the big Kahuna of the tribe. Yell, talk, kick ass and put order. He didn't let anybody across his position
Cam 8: Tactic. We use to see Cam running up and down the ball like a road-runner. Today instead, has decided to be be one more in the tiki taka party, always played in 1 or 2 touches, liking the idea of keep the ball in our posession. Defensively, well, what can I say? Is Cam
Marco 8: Serious. He played in the RB, and damn he did! Complete understanding with Cam, and George. Also he was very involved in the first half, actually the right wing was a highwall for the spaniard. Lacking energy in the second half he played more static. Living la vida loca with the tiki taka.
Mikee 7: Fast and powerful. Even with that had a good challenge against the UNSW Wing. Aware of that he correct his position and played a good second half, with some excursions in attack. He also played less long balls than usual and get more involved with the short passing
Ross 9: It's worth to see the game just for enjoy those 3 or 4 nugmets that Ross does every game. Or how he turns over himself for let the oppnent with a sore neck. Then you have is transitions. Crossing lines with one pass or playing back and safe if the situation is not good. Brave
Ian 8: Bulldog. You want the midfield? Come and take it. That's Ian. It's always bossing around and if he's not, you can hear him yelling instructions. He played a role much more defensive today, Playing in between Ross and the two CB. That's when Ian is Ian.
Pete 7: Joker. Playing in the LW and the RW, solid in the challenge, and incisive in the left wing, with more spaces than in the other side. Had a good chance on the first half, and also has emptied the tank in the second half.
Pat 7: Intense. Interesting game of the ginger tower! He's a rock when defending, playing always up un down the line. Precise on the pass, and inteligent with the ball, can be a really good new for the team in his first game! Another one that gives everything in the pitch
Jason 9: Animal. His killer instincts are intact. Jason is here and he said something about 20 goals. Wanna bet? 4/20 brother. His capacity for combine is always fantastic. Marco and Carlos are runners, Jason is like a one night stand, get the ball, Do i have an option here? Boyaaaa Goal. He is always where it has to be, aiming for another goal.
Carlos 9: Cafetero. The Colombian is another great new for this team, he has goal and game. He plays for the team, and he always talks, in different languages of course, one of them is the goal language. Finally the striker did what he's here to do. Score. Two golazos that could had been 4! Carlos generates danger, he is electric and strong.
Foff 7: Bull. Took the right wing a few times and his communication with Marco was perfect, they always had they're backs covered. Also is a good option in headers or 50/50 balls, creating a few chances from the corners, from there started the 2-0
Evan 7: Combinative. Evan's game today was less brightful than usual, but that was because he was more involved in the team creation more than the definition. Even with that he tried his luck sending some artillery from outside the box in the second half.
Season 2015/16 MVP:
