If you whatch the episode again, you will be able to get more clues about this defeat.
I bet that you still mumbling about this game.
Dunbar Rovers, a well positioned team
Apart from a striker with a good touch, they didn't have a key player, instead, they had a good coordinaton in between every player, and good descipline when defending. As they show in the ladder, is a team that goes up and down, but still have his character. They discipline won our indiscipline, fair or not, like it or not, they got the 3 points.
Football is at the end 11 vs 11 and they did what they had to do
45 first minutes of apathy.
I usually have some material to writte about, I am affraid that today wasn't the day. The team was a shadow, some random lights where coming here and there, but they we're only sparkles in that bidimensional pitch.
Pagewood had no strategy in most of the minutes of the first half, the ball did seem made it with venomous poison because nobody was able to do or generate any sense with it.
While the defence was dancing over the red thin line, the midfield was overtaken over and over. Fact, that doesn't change that the midfield did ha hard task fighting and pressing, with more effectivity on the second half. Ross and Ian did not have chances to put a tempo on this game that lost the essence as soon as they scored a clear penalty.
The problem is that the team didn't use his tools on the right places. The ball has to pass from the defence to the midfield, where they will choose the right moment to move forward, using the wings or Jason as a crane, that put the balls down, or even better, can play a one to open the game in both sides. Looks like a simple ABC plan, but it wasn't easy. From Sam to Jason, nobody was focus.
Long and pentagruelic balls where going up and down, even when other options where available.
Passes out of time, or simple bad passes, lack of a plan in general. Marco and Pete on the wings, where not deep enough, and the influence in the game was less than other games. This affects Jason, who need partners for develop his best skill. Demolish goalkeepers.
Good! But not good enough.
I personally hate loosing, and I don't even usually write when we loose, but not today. I'm not angry, I'm impatient for the next game, I can't wait for the kick off.
Yes, the penalty was penalty, and the 1-2 was in a pretty obvious offside. You can hold on that or try to find another explanation about the second half. And thats why I'm here for.
First sympton of change, the pressure was much intense. Foff on the left back, more defensive and positional than MIkee, helped the left flank to have more space. Ross started to get more balls instead of bananas, and the speed was again in our favour.
Maybe Dunbar had more control in the first half, but they didn't had many chances. Pagewood was playing now more wide, and advancing lines with more order than before, this allowed Kenny, Carlos, Marco and the others, to get more in touch with Ian and Ross.
In one of those we got a penalty. Ross asked for the ball and displayed a perfect penalty. Power, skill, and direction. You can't stop that.
But life is hard sometimes, and more when we complicate ourselves. Dunbar had 1, si, 1 good combination in the entire game, and they scored a goal, yes, I know, offside, but we where aware of that.
Turn off the Tv and go sleep.
We lost, and it's bad, but it's not terminal. The team wasn't a team today. And yes, we pushed more in the second half, but it was probably to late.
0-1 (p) Dunbar 1-1 Ross (p) 1-2 Dunbar
RED: Discontrol and effectivity.
The lines where broken most part of the time. The ball was not in control of players with red shirts in most part of the first half. No plan A, B or C. No party.
Lack of ammo. First game that Jason doesn't score, also upsetting the fact that players like Marco, Carlos, Pete, Kenny, are not scoring too. The second line is very important. We don't create enough chances. This is another reality.
YELLOW: Good attitude on the second half.
The reaction of the team was a enjoyable new. Chances increased on the second half, with more corners, free kicks and options to goal. Although that unfortunately it was impossible to score
The pressing was higher and for moments the team was all over the place.
GREEN: Competence.
This league won't be as easy as it was the last year, teams know us, and the new ones are better. This will be much more sexy than last year. No more The undefeated, no more walks in the park like last year, welcome to hell ladies, it's time to wear our best clothes and bring the whisky, we are going to have a long and violent dance to achieve the play off's. Because trust me, we will
