Even with that, this was a good game. Playing happily for moments and very fast in others...until the team run out of petrol. We can't take many conclusions today, but it is obvious that the team have more compenetration, and most important. Motivation.
On the first line up a few new faces, new and fresh blood for team that this year is dreaming in repeat at least the play-offs final's. Jack, Darren and Carlos, and Evan covering the GK since the team is empty in this position. 4-4-2 with Evan, Jack RB, Mikee CB, George CB, Darren LB, Ross MD, Ian MD, Marco RW, Pete LW, Jason ST, Carlos ST. Kenny was the only change for the team.
Brilliant start. 0-3 in the first 20 min.
Pagewood did today something that never happen the year before. Score 6 goals. Seriously! What the F***, how did that happen when we didn't even have Goalkepper even when Evan did actually a great match...and the fitness...it was on holidays...call me crazy but what I could see is a group of players that played like a team. Lucky them they also have powerfire up the front, and once all the mechanisms are more polished, we can talk about a dangerous team. Passes where not always precise and perfect, some other moments not even the circulation was fast but in 20 min Pagewood was 0-3. Seems easy.
Waeverly wasn't a very dangerous team, well organised in the midfield but without a player that could change a game, unfortunately for them Pagewood does. You can name them...
The first goal was a poem of team work. Ross open to Marco on the right side, he plays with the head, back to Jack, who opens over the defense looking for the spanish fast diagonal, this touch to Jason inside the area who instead of shoot he opens to Ross, just in the middle but a bit behind, the scottish can shoot but he's a very imaginative player, a touch with the right foot to Pete in the other corner of the area...easy! 1,2,3,4...and Pete cross a beatutiful shoot, low, kissing the post for score the 1-0.
Didn't took long until Kenny score the second goal. This is the result of an accumulation of quick passes and fast thinking of the mens in the middle. Today Ross draw beautiful combinations with Pete and Marco, and Jason...ai Jason...The crane is back in his whole expresion. Kenny's 0-2 came from a quick counter attack and he finished scoring from inside the small area. It's beautiful too see how the team didn't depend on individual skills today. Most part of the goals are coming from team work. Then we have the 0-3. Marco end up the last season scoring a bunch of goals, and becoming the perfect complement for the trident (Jason-Ross-Marco) today he didn't had many shoots, but the spaniard got one!
If in the first goal we're talking about short team passing and positioning of the players, in the second goal we talking about speed and rush football. The ball start in the defence, the middfield move quick and once the ball ends up with Kenny, everything speeds up. Kenny controll the ball and with 2 touches, drop a deep ball to Jason who he simply does a soft touch with his back heel and prolonging the ball for Marco who coming from behind skips the goalkeeper, and score the third.
Carlos, the colombian Tiger, and the two new defenders are in shape
Good news for the team are that we get some more power in the defence. Jack and Darren are very strong defenders, secure and powerful. Good in air balls and fierce on the tackle. Definetely two good news for a defence that is lacking in players.
Carlos, he easy could had score 4 goals, but he just need time. He understood perfectly how to play with people like Ross, Jason or Marco, players that once they got the ball the play fast and quick up front. Those 4 players, and Pete, who always has a more static role, but important as the most, only need 4 touches for organise an attacking action. Carlos has showed that he can play the standard one-two, and he show as well his great speed in the sprint.
He get so many different options but today wasn't his day, even with that, amazing game from the colombian striker.
Lacking the energy, but Pete scores for "cojones"
At the end of the first half, the energy was starting to be a bit low, and Waeverly scored in one of the lonely chances that they got. What it looked like a team reaction was just a mirage. Pete scored one of those goals that you only score if you have cojones and motivation, and he had both. Carlos was fighting a ball against the keeper who was out of his area, I don't know how the keeper took the ball away from Carlos but Pete keeping the pressure force the kepper to shoot without even aim or look, result....the ball bounce on Pete, and he scores the 1-4.
Time for grab some air and relax a bit in the shadow!!
Score as a routine.
The second half was a letargic trance into the world of pain. After 15 minutes the team change the gear. Kenny was gone after the first 45 min, and Waeverly had a team of 15 players, all of this means that the minutes looked like hours for a too tired team.
Waeverly scored 2 goals but was more for the team lack of energy for keep the pressure than a disruption of our defence. But in Jasonlandia is always christmas. He scored two goals, gave many assistances, combined with everyone and put down every ball coming from the sky's. Jason's second goal is priceless. Looked like tarzan in the jungle, running in between players, from the left till the right, passing the goalkeeper and scoring. Zlatan Ibrahijason is here.
Red: Lack of pass consistency
When the team was tired, and it's just the first game, but if this team has to improve something is the passing. Too many long balls from the defence to the strikers without stop in the midfield. This only creates runnings and sprints without much control. Instead, the team has to learn to play back if it's necessary and take more time with the ball in control. Time and training
Orange: The midfield work's hard, but need's more presence.
The 4 in the midfield are played a great game. 3 goals are from players in the midfield, and Ian and Ross have fight all the 50-50 balls, but today the midfield didn't had enough control and tempo. Great show of skills but just in some moments of the game. Great to see some combinations using one or two touches
Green: 6 goals, and a stronger defence
6 goals was something that never happen last year. The team did it today. Also the two new side defenders are strong and powerfull. Also Jack has presence in attack, something very funny to see once the understanding with Marco grow's up
Evan 7: Not much to see about the goals. They all where good balls, but he was secure and played a few good long balls, arming counter attacks.
Jack 8 MVP: Until he cramps got him he was the best. An animal in the right back. Perfect in defence. Him and Marco had control the right side like soldiers. Good compentration
George 7: If you go to Paris you see the Eiffel Tower in the middle, if you go to Pagewood you find George. Great game, solid and scaring. Like he has to be
Mikee 6: Playing out of position he managed for play a good game. Less solid than George but fundamental for air balls.
Darren 7: He punished most part of the attacks in the left side. Being less ofensive than Jack but increasing his defensive rol. He need a bit more of time for play along side with Pete.
Ian 6: I should call him Mascherano. He is like him, a beast in defence although that today played far behind Ross. We didn't see much of Private Ian in attack but again, he does Ross and Ian defensive work if it's necearry
Ross 7: Intermitent. The scottishman is the brain in the middle, when he get close to the wings it means always one thing. Danger. Specially the triangulations with Jason and Marco. For the general lack of energy he got less important in the last 20 min.
Marco 6: Accelerated. He did in general lines a good game, although that showed two faces. In the first half he start to imprecise but he correct himself scoring a goal and being part of the fast combinations. On the second half he did two terrific passes , but he also played 2 long balls with a lot of danger.
Pete 8: Great. The first goal was a beautiful definition with an excellent curve. The second a reflex of an attitude. Even when he could be the men of the match, he has to get more involved on the one-two kind of play. The left wing was well defended with him and Darren, and he participate as well in the most part of the attacks
Jason 8: As mentioned before, a happy Jason means goals. He contributes in all the actions in attack, touching quick, dragging defenders and pressing the ball. Zlatan is hungry. 20 goals? 18 left
Carlos 6: Nervous. He start very active, and motivated, but he couldn't score. He put too much pressure on himself and he missed a few goals in the second half. This doesn't mean that he didn't played well. Speed, fight and power. He also showed some skilled tricks. The tiger
Kenny 6: Goal and easy touch for the middfielder. Unfortunately he had to leave in the second half. The time that he played he combined well with the team and create chances on both wings
