Super sexy weekend today with a very interesting round of games. All the teams are facing opponents that are one position below or over.
Then we have
Olympic Vs Sydney Unu
Loko Vs Redfern
Maroubra Vs UNSW
And us
So much in game today, against a team that we lost against. At home, on a terrible game, that we scored on a penalty. Tough and disciplined, but without players that can break a game, Dunbar are a serious rival. The key for Dunbar are: The striker, the one that plays best, he scored today the equalizer from a beautiful free kick. Then the midfielders, with Barbol commanding the lines. Tall and strong, he is they're Ian. He has 2 lieutenants, those extra midfielders played today very close to each other, until some point. That point was us.
With 5 players out, and only one sub, at least we did enjoy the pleasure of play in a real field. Flat, yes it was actually totaly flat. I hope that you all enjoyed this pitch today, don't get to cheesy tho, next week we are back to reality.
The pitch, actually did help us, the passing was much more accurate and without strange or mystical bounces.
Possession game and pressure.
Pagewood started with Jason on the bench as he came last minute, leaving upfron the latinoamerican duo. Two tall and skilled players in the wing, with Pat and Kenny, this was a perfect combination and lead to so many options and chances ahead.
Jack and Ian as a MD, and the usuall defence, with Foff on the LB covering Mikee. Ross couldn't play today, and starts to be a delicatessen that we can only taste in big festivals.
But this didn't stop anybody to do they're jobs. Pagewood found quickly the way, combination play looking to stretch the field, looking for the wings. The mobility of both strikers was a nightmare for the defenders as they had to work hard for stop those combinations between lines.
Having the best version of our Red Back Defensive Line Extra Turbo Power, the game get a red tone. Our tone. The team was getting close and close, with so many action in Dunbars half, and getting more and more close to the goal.
Carlos and Marco, having a great support from behind and always looking for the space, where start to flirt with the goalkeeper, a shot here and a corner there. The game was ours.
0-1 and start again, 1-1
Because some times football is simple, when you do simple things, you get rewarded.
Dunbar bombs a ball into our box but there is George, instead of giving them back, put it down, stop the timmer and said, "Let's do it" and starts the timmer at the same time that passes the ball to Cam, who by the way, is in superhero mode, Cam in the left moves forward, taking a few touches, and flips a ball to his fellow, With this pass, over the midfield, he break the lines, and now is Pat, there, ready. The ginger wingmen puts the ball down with a superb touch, and under the pressure he flips the ball again to the next men ahead. That was Marco, and Pat just delivered breakfast. With that pass, he put the spaniard on the run breaking the offside, catches the pass, and goes for the one on one with the GK, who gets beaten after a nice cross at the far post from the ST. This team play done in matter of seconds gave us a well deserved goal, product of the team sacrifice and effort.
But as we say in my country, It doesn't last long the happiness, in the homeless home. After just 5 min of the goal, Dunbar scored from a free kick, our GK did had a touch, but not enough for such a strike. Remember our last game against Dunbar? They scored from a Penalty and from a direct corner. Yes, direct. Maybe a think to point, as seems that they can't score in team play. Good point for the red back.
The rest of the half, was a continous attack over Dunbar. Jason, came up to play, and left Marco on the LB, and himself and Carlos ahead. With Kenny having fun in the field, distributing passes, Jason found a couple of good chances, one of the pretty close to score after a strange strike.
Resistance!!!!
The second half proved Dunbar defence, and they succeed over the red tsunami.
the first 5 min, where a bit weak for the team, as they where not in place yet. They shot from outside the box so many times, but so many times too the ball end up in Syberia. Then Pagewood took control of the game. Cam was everywhere, in constant communication with everybody, and more important, he was in that zen mode. Cam was a box to box midfielder today, much more offensive than usuall, and a constant danger when he got to play with Kenny or Marco.
In some point, the game became a Russian roulette for Dunbar defence. With so many spaces in the midfield, Kenny and Marco where taking the trainsitions to another level of speed. Carlos and Jason where fullfieled of options today. Even the second men lines, had chances too. The GK took so many shoots out today.
Carlos, Marco, Jason, Pat, Kenny, Cam...I can type the entire team, as pretty much everyone tried a shoot today. Faith and good food, but we missed the Crane's goal. It was there, but it wasn't.
Special mention to Darren, who apart of complete a great game, he was decisive in the last 10 min, when Dunbar generate more problems. Him and Dave. The keeper saved the only clear chance of Dunbar in the entire game. A shot from inside the box, face to face and naughty. But he was in Clint Eastwood mood and refused the ball away. How surrealistic can football be somtimes huh?
At the end 1 point that taste like 3, but we are missing 2.
Let's see the results tomorrow and enjoy the week.
0-1 Marco (Pat) 1-1 Dunbar (23)
MVP of the game
Kenny 3
Cam & Darren 2
Marco 1
Red: Effectivity
In the first half we had a few chances at the end, but apart from the goal, we didn't create danger enough. We played on they're field, most part of the time but not getting enough. In the second half, every attack was a chance, but in the last meters, the lights turns off. A think to practice before the next game
Orange: Muddy
Being said that the pitch was the beast that we're gonna play this season, it had a but. Heavy rain yesterday. And the field didn't drag enough. The grass was soft, and it didn't help sometimes. Specially because you're legs are doing an extra effort. The team stood up tho, and gave 120% of themselves
Green: Tiki Taka
The team had an idea of what they wanted, and the connection beteween lines was in some moments perfect. George had "temple" so Darren did, but in the Back Cam was the brain. He always tried to play short, opening the field and playing quick. When this happens, the other players can show they're skills. The entire MD and the ST have found today a way to play together, and that create so many problems over Dunbar
Dave 8: The Pirate. Dave Blackbeard saved the team in a clear shot inside the small box, but the corsair put his hands and saved the team. After that he will plunder the coast with the crew. Rum will be distributed. He had no problem in air balls and showed his skills as a keeper
Darren 8: Rambo. The RB did manage his side like a veteran, he used all his tricks, even the C4. Every shoulder to shoulder was a victory for this solder. Also, copped a great game by being a usefull tool in attack, playing always short and looking forward. Give a beer to his men.
George 7: Pitbull. Playing a standard game of tackles and domestical tasking in defence. With a partner like him, is like having the Rock as a bouncer when you're doing your shopping. Scary as usuall, he doesnt make many mistakes. Strength and Honour
Cam 9: Godfather. He was the men, because he was everywhere, always up to something. Say Cam 3 times in front of the mirror, and he will come passing you a ball. He took today control of the game, and even participated in so many attacks, having a great connection with Marco and Kenny. Add to this, the fact that he is the first men in defence when we loose the ball.
Foff 7: Missionaire. His mission was to bring peace and good behalve on the left flank, and Dunbar gpt the message pretty well. Nobody step over him, and every long ball on his side was always for him. On line with the CB and always an option for his team. He keep the LW back at all the times.
Kenny 9: Versatil. Extroverted and elegant. What a game for this player, he covered a good distance in the field, pressing without the ball. With the ball on his feet, everything can happen. His skills with the ball and his habilty passing are perfect. Fast and slow baby, he controls the game with his rhythm. He break Dunbar every time that found spaces with his mates.
Jack 7: The ripper . He had to cover more part of the field today, as Ian played sometimes as a CB. Took 3 steps back and played a dirty rol. He punished everybody that tried to move in the midfield. He took his cut, and played with more spaces in the second half. The MD came so many times from the second line, always close to score.
Ian 7: Boa Constrictor. Like a snake, he squeeze all the enemy options in attack. Taking an even much more defensive rol, he place imself in between Darren and George, as Cam was dancing tango with Marco. If you try to walk close to him, he will punish you. So eventually Dunbar decided to not try anymore for his side, as it was a waste of time. Ian is Ian, here, in china or in Dubai.
Pat 8: All week long. He's doing dribblings and passes from monday to sunday, day after day. His assistance on the first goal was delightful. Catch everyone by surprise, except the spaniard, he knew that Pat was able to squeeze that pass. Also the ginger tower is becoming more and more skilled with his foot work, and Dunbar suffered that for 90min. He got a couple of long distance shots in the second half. Warrior.
Marco 8: Unstoppable. He played today 3 seconds ahead than everybody today, as he found himself with so many space in front of him. Fast and tenacious, he run always with his head up. When he has the ball he drags so many players with him, and facilitates incorporations from other lines. Perfect in the transitions, having Cam, Kenny and Carlos as they favourite partners. Scored a goal, drive nuts the entire Dunbar defence, and had chances to score a couple more. Genereous when passing and impossible to stop when coming from behind. Number 10
Carlos 7: Bull. He didn't score today, but not because he didn't try. The keeper took his best chance away. A long distance shot that was aiming the left corner, but for 3cm it didn't went in. Talking the entire game, he was always in the right position, opening spaces and fighting every ball. He corrected himself from the offside trap. Perfect complement for players like Kenny or Marco. In a progressive line as usuall. Necessary
Jason 7: Cold. Even when he didn't score, his presence and height is enough for scare everyone. He had 3 chances to score specially in the first half, but he couldn't. a bit less incisive than usuall as he played a bit more wide than he usually does. Away from his killing area, he reduces his impact on the game, although that as per usuall he left some quality touches, combinations and passes. We need his goals as we all need oxygen for live.
